This very unique Adam style pine and gesso mantel dates from the Georgian period (early 19th century) and features an eagle on the central tablet; a design we have never seen here before.
As well as the eagle and its surrounding decoration there are gesso urns in the upper corners, as well as reeded sections of the legs and breastplate.
The mantel itself is very typical of the Georgian period; elegant straight edges, carved vertical lines and finely detailed gesso work.
